More than a book, it’s represents the authors vision.
For the design of Sharon Neumann Solow’s book, the agenda was to tie together her practice and experience with links to an international community. From back to front, and everything in between, the book has to sell its message. Having practiced in ASL Interpreting for 30 years, Sharon needed more than to just release a book. Her entire experience was drafted into Power Interpreting, Build Your Skills in 5 Steps, so having a unique presentation across all resources unified the effort to sell books.
ASL interpreting is predominantly the visual practice of sign language. We wanted to modernize the concept, and bring strength to the derived visual assets. The five fingers, as it relates to the five steps, became the ideal choice. The colour use/palette is a reflection of her nature and personality. The dotted reference between the figures becomes emblematic of the approach in signing, and the essential and clearly plotted out skills provided by the book. The concepts within the book are simplified, and it makes skill enhancement clear and readable. The five finger visual is now a unique recognizable “brand” that is used to pitch her practice.
From the book, we applied the design into an adhesive book plate, a brochure for conferences, a graphic signature for her emails, and a redesign of her exiting website. This made it “handy” when Sharon presents at conferences abroad into the US. We also did an update to her website, simplifying the structure using WordPress. It’s a well serviced CMS, and for an experienced author, we reorganized content presentation and brought her current brand forward. We pulled all her more recent resources forward to her front page along with a direct link to events. Navigation is simplified to connect her audience directly to easily accessible information.
